  1.      Greetings!

  3.      This is the TEX master distribution disk.  It includes a copy of the
  4. current version of TEX (0.51, dated 18 Sep 88) along with source code in C
  5. for all of the TEX XFCNs.  This disk also holds copies of the stand-alone
  6. applications (and their source code) for MultIndexer (version 0.41),
  7. qndxr (version 0.41), and brwsr (version 0.2).  There is source code for
  8. the Sun/VAX/etc. version of qndxr and brwsr as well.  Finally, the disk
  9. contains all of TEXAS version 0.27 source code and a copy of the TEXAS
  10. version 0.27 stack itself.  I have used Raymond Lau's STUFFIT to save
  11. space and provide redundant copies of the applications.

  13.      TEX is being freely distributed, but I ask that you read the "Help"
  14. information in the stack and, if you enjoy using TEX, send in the nominal
  15. license fee requested there.  That will register you so that I can send
  16. you information about new releases, among other things.  It will also
  17. encourage me to work further on this software and will let me add some
  18. interesting features which I have in mind.

  20.      Please share copies of this software with your friends, post it on
  21. various networks and bulletin boards, etc.  Send me your bug reports as
  22. well as suggestions for improvements and copies of your customized,
  23. enhanced, modified stacks based on TEX, please!

  25.      I would be thrilled to learn of people's successes using TEX in their
  26. work and play.  I also would love to hear from people who have taken my
  27. index structures and algorithms and rewritten or extended them to add
  28. new features that can be of help to the world.

  30.      After fixing one major and one minor bug between version 0.26 and 0.27
  31. of the public-domain stack TEXAS, I can no longer promise to work further
  32. on it.  TEX is much enhanced over TEXAS, and I think that you will
  33. appreciate its new features such as multi-dataspace browsing and
  34. subspace exploration.  Send in your license fee to get on my mailing list
  35. for announcements of new versions of TEX and other news and
  36. developments in the world of real-time, high-bandwidth, free-text
  37. dataspace navigation.  Help support me in my efforts to extend and improve
  38. TEX for you.  Join the adventure!
